How do Dermal Fillers work?
Dermal fillers are an innovative non-surgical treatment used to tackle wrinkles, ease the signs of premature ageing and subtly transform facial features. This method is fast becoming the go-to procedure for anyone wanting a more youthful appearance but who doesn’t want the recovery and down time associated with cosmetic surgery.
Dermal fillers can essentially be described as biological Polyfilla which is injected into the skin to replace lost volume in the subcutaneous layer of skin, a condition which is associated with the ageing face. When applied skilfully dermal fillers can also be used to subtly change the appearance of the face by altering facial features such as the jawline and cheeks.
At Cosmetic Surgery Partners, we use non-permanent hyaluronic acid fillers such as Restylane and Juvederm. These fillers are much safer and give a better final finish than more traditional fillers such as collagen. They are also less likely to cause an allergic reaction, and the pleasing results can last for up to six months per treatment. Who makes an ideal candidate for dermal fillers?

Do dermal fillers produce or restore the production of Collagen?
No. Dermal fillers such as Juvederm and Restylane are essentially collagen substitutes, in many respects they supersede collagen however it is worth noting their period of effectiveness is its main drawback.
Patients who are looking to restore collagen in their face should consider using a bio-stimulator such as Sculptra which works by stimulating the growth of the body’s naturally occurring collagen.
Is there an age limit for patients wanting Dermal Fillers?
Unfortunately for some patients are minimum age at the clinic is 18. Conversely however there is no real age limit for dermal filler treatment so long as the patient is in good health.

What areas are best treated with Dermal Fillers?
Dermal fillers are particularly effective around the mouth, lips and nose. However, not all wrinkles are suitable for this treatment as not all lines are formed in the same way. Our experts know from their considerable experience and extensive training that the areas of the face best suited to dermal fillers are the horizontal lines around the mouth and the naso-labial lines (that run from the base of the nose to the corners of the mouth).
Dermal fillers are non-permanent, but can be used alongside other treatments to achieve the most natural look possible. Most patients leave the clinic straight after their treatment, and recover within hours.
