While current UK law states that anyone over the age of 16 can consent to undergo cosmetic surgery, it often depends on circumstances specific to the individual and many cosmetic surgeons won’t perform procedures on anyone until they are over 18. It is difficult for surgery to be performed before this age as facial growth and bone structure hasn’t fully matured and set in its adult appearance.

As the body and bone structure is still growing, a vast majority of cosmetic surgeries are out of bounds as they can result in an undesirable appearance in adulthood. Another reason for the age limit on opting for cosmetic surgery are the psychological ones– while anxiety about appearance can occur at any age, it is exemplified during the teens due to changing body appearance and hormonal impulses along with pressure to conform to a certain image or style. Needless to say these are unsuitable reasons for cosmetic surgery. The main exception to these rules revolve around specific damage or medical conditions which could be improved by cosmetic surgery.

With this in mind, there are certain cosmetic surgeries where timing is everything and there is a perfect age range for you to opt to undergo a procedure:

Botox

Ideal age: 35

Quick and relatively pain-free, Botox is one of the most popular cosmetic treatments – producing noticeable and successful results in the reduction of wrinkles.

Wrinkles don’t actually start to become permanent until you are in your late 30s, and Botox is a great way to bring a youthful vigour back to the face – especially for those wrinkles that remain on the face when you are resting.

Eye Lift

Ideal age: 40

The eyes are among the first areas of the face to show signs of aging – whether that’s due to frequency of movement, lack of moisturising, or age – and eye lifts can make a huge difference to addressing sagging and tired looks. By undergoing upper eyelid surgery or having surgery on eye-bags, you can attain a rejuvenated and youthful appearance.

There is no standard surgery when it comes to eye lifts, so operating methods tend to be tailored to your own unique desires and looks and a consultation is imperative.

Rhinoplasty

Ideal age: 18

Reiterating some of the issues mentioned at the beginning of the article, Rhinoplasty shouldn’t be performed prior to the facial bones ceasing to grow. With the age of consent being 18, it’s a great idea to get the surgery while young as the skin can readapt itself to the changed facial structure.

Whether you want your nostrils to be narrowed, the angle between the nose and lower lip changed, the shape of the nose tip changing, or the nose made bigger or smaller, an in-depth consultation is a must to see if your goals are attainable.

Lips

Ideal age: 37

One of the main reasons for women to get lip filler surgery is due to concerns that their full pout no longer has its allure and their lips are starting to thin with age. While lips tend to start thinning from the late 20s onwards, the effects don’t tend to be noticeable until you start to hit your late 30s.

At Beyond Beauty, we use Juvéderm for lip filler surgery – a gel which helps to subtly reshape and redefine the lips while also adding definition to the mouth and the outline of the face.

Breast Implant

Ideal age: 25

Good quality breast implants stand the test of time, with the majority of patients opting for the surgery at around 25-28 years old. It is important not to get the surgery for cosmetic reasons if you’re under 18 because the breasts haven’t stopped developing at that age.

At Beyond Beauty we only use Nagor implants for our breast implant procedures. These carry a lifetime guarantee, are insured against rupturing, and have proven to be the safest and most dependable choice on the market.

Liposuction

Ideal age: Early to mid-30s

Liposuction is commonly used to remove excess fat from the abdomen, buttocks and thighs.

Diet and exercise can do a lot for combatting the issues which liposuction is used to treat, however the younger the skin the easier it is for the elasticity to return and compliment the slimmer shape. With this in mind, mid-30s is the ideal time to undergo the surgery, especially if diet and exercise haven’t helped previously.

Tummy Tuck

Ideal age: 35

Tummy Tuck surgery tends to be sought out by patient who have large areas of excess fat and skin around their abdomen – whether that’s a result of extreme and sudden weight loss or pregnancy.

While the above age is merely a guide, it should be stated that you shouldn’t undergo a tummy tuck procedure until you’ve had your last child as the skin will only stretch in pregnancy again. It is quite a major surgery, so you have to be reasonably fit and healthy to undergo it.
