Latest trend in Breast surgery 2014 Mastopexy vs Breast Augmentation

ASPS reports a trending rise in breast uplift (mastopexy surgery) versus the previously popular breast implant surgery (breast augmentation)

It was interesting to read the latest ASPS stats that reported a rise in breast uplift (mastopexy) procedures.  As we have seen over the past 3-4 years, breast implants can present more problems than bargained for and, of course, will require some form of surgery in the future.

With the age group 30 – 54 years being most common, changes after pregnancy and breastfeeding are a very common complaint. With one of the commercial companies stating recently that their average breast implant size had fallen from 420cc to 380cc the swing away from the ‘Jordan look’ appears to be confirming the trend we surgeons have been seeing in our clinics for a time now. Women are far less seeking an artificial, overinflated look and in its place, simply a restoration of what they had before. Naturally, such surgery is more complex so it is even more important to make the right choice of surgeon.
