What Does Breast Reduction Surgery Entail

Breast reduction surgery is one of the most common operations we conduct at Beyond Beauty Cosmetic, and as such we are innovators in the field – so much so we developed and introduced widely used techniques such as the glandular slide-vertical scar for breast reductions.

Everyone who comes to us for breast reduction surgery has their own unique story as to why they want to go ahead with the procedure – some have large breasts that are causing tremendous back pain, others come to us due to restrictions in physical activity caused by the size of their breasts.

Breast Reduction Consultation

Due to the fact that breast reduction is a major surgery, it helps to know what the surgery entails so that any benefits, complications, and timescale for recovery is discussed. This will always start with a consultation period with your surgeon where your medical history will be discussed along with questions regarding any habits you have such as smoking, and current medications you are on. The surgeon may then measure and photograph our breasts so they can visualise how much tissue will need to be removed for you to be satisfied with the surgery.

Breast Reduction Surgery

If you are happy to go ahead with the surgery after the consultation, you will be given a date for surgery. This will generally take place at an outpatient facility but in some cases you may have to spend the night in hospital. The operation will generally take around two to four hours and sometimes even longer depending on the amount to be reduced.

Breast Reduction Recovery

You will need to take between one and two weeks to recover from breast reduction surgery, and your surgeon will arrange for follow-up appointments with you to remove bandages and stitches and check on your recovery. It’s important that you do not do any physical activity for a month after the surgery – this includes house work, heavy lifting, and any other form of rigorous exercise.

The scarring may look severe after the surgery but these will calm quickly and fade over time, so it is important that you rest and recuperate fully during the recovery period.

Among our team is Miles Berry, a Master of Surgery and accredited surgeon in the GMC Specialist register, so you can be assured you’re in the best hands when coming to Beyond Beauty Cosmetic for your procedure.
