The major reason is the cost of surgery; undoubtedly the major cost in cosmetic surgery is that of the hospital. If you go abroad the first thing you need to realise is the consultation will not be on an equal basis. If you’ve travelled to for example Poland or South Africa, the advice you’re going to get once you got there is; ‘yes, you are a good candidate for this or that operation.’ So you are not getting unbiased advice right from the word go, that’s human nature. But more importantly the surgery may be brilliant the hospital facility excellent, however it’s the aftercare that is so important is cosmetic surgery…
You may find that after two weeks you’ve got to come back. If you have had for example eye lid surgery, you may find you have a problem with the tearing of your eyes, or with a face lift – the scars, or with a breast augmentation – hardening of the breasts or asymmetry and there is nothing that can be done if you are back in London and your cosmetic surgeon is in Timbuktu.
So really, you should think hard. The cost is important, but it is not the major decision making factor. Think of value. Value is the thing you want, because you pay for what you get. That’s what we feel at Cosmetic Surgery Partners, we are not the cheapest but we are certainly not the most expensive and we pride ourselves on giving good value for money with good surgeons, in good hospitals, with great after care.
